AOL

At AOL, our top priority is to provide consumers greater peace of mind by helping them feel safer and more secure online. This is particularly true when it comes to children, which is why AOL proudly supports the efforts of ECPAT International and the Children’s Charities' Coalition for Internet Safety to make IT safe for children and young people everywhere.

Since its founding, AOL has taken the lead in providing a safe place for children online. AOL was the first service to offer members built-in Parental Controls, and continues to innovate in this area to help protect children from unwanted and inappropriate content. In addition, AOL has led an aggressive campaign against spam – which often contains inappropriate content for children. These efforts have resulted in a 75 per cent reduction in the amount of spam in members’ email boxes.

Safety and security have never been mere buzzwords at AOL. They are the foundation of our mission. Our goal at AOL is simple: To let our members get everything they want out of the Internet, while protecting them from the things they don’t want.

Microsoft

19 April 2005 - Microsoft agrees with ECPAT and CHIS that children's online safety is a matter of global concern, and we support the call for further dialogue on the role of technology and education in protecting children from harm online and in combating child pornography. We also agree that the IT industry has an important role to play and we work regularly with governments, law enforcement agencies, children's organizations and other IT leaders on child safety issues.

In recognition of the importance of the issue, Microsoft has, for example, developed parental control features in our software products, supports a variety of educational efforts for both children and their guardians, partners with law enforcement in conducting investigative training, and sponsors relevant organizations including the Internet Watch Foundation. More information about Microsoft's commitment to children's online safety can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/issues/essays/2005/04-06childsafety.asp"

Vodafone

19 April 2005 - Vodafone supports the launch of the worldwide make-IT-safe campaign led by child rights NGO, ECPAT International and the UK based Children’s Charities Coalition on Internet Safety (CHIS).

Vodafone is committed to ensuring that its customers are protected from inappropriate content, contact and commercialism. In support of this, it launched the world’s first access controls mechanism for mobiles in July 2004. This service will be rolled out to all other markets by 2006.

Vodafone also works with the Virtual Global Task Force (VGT) which aims to make the internet a safer place for children and prevent on-line child abuse by offering advice and information through its website. It also provides advice and information for customers who wish to report suspected cases of abuse. Vodafone UK helped to develop a WAP enabled version of the VGT website. Customers who attempt to access a site which is identified as illegal by the Internet Watch Foundation will be denied access and receive a warning message from the VGT. Vodafone will promote this initiative in other countries next year.

“We believe wholeheartedly in the protection of our customers,” said Tina Southall, Director of Content Standards at Vodafone. “As mobiles can now provide access to the internet we recognise the need to support child safety initiatives on a global level and we are keen to work with organisations such as CHIS and ECPAT that will help us to combat internet abuse before it becomes a problem on mobiles.”

"BT has been very actively engaged in trying to make the internet a much safer place for children and that is really what the CHIS-ECPAT International is campaign all about so we have no difficulty at all in endorsing it."
